Spier 21 Gables Pinotage 2019
Named in honour of the Spier farm's 21 architecturally significant Cape Dutch gables — more than any other wine farm in South Africa.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Pinotage from Spier's Dryland vineyards, overlooking False Bay on the southern side of Stellenbosch, South Africa. The decomposed granite soils help with water retention thanks to their high clay content.
Taste Profile: Deep ruby red colour. Beautifully balanced and intensely complex, with concentrated flavours of caramelised black cherry, dark plum, dark chocolate and hints of tobacco and oak spice. The full palate is smooth, with fresh acidity and firm but velvety tannins — already good to drink, but built to improve further with time.
Winemaking Process: Hand-harvested, then chilled, bunch-sorted and destemmed. Partial natural fermentation in stainless steel, with the balance inoculated with a specific yeast strain. The free-run wine was drained to a combination of first- and second-fill French, American and Hungarian oak barrels, where it matured for 20 months.
Winemaker: Spier is one of South Africa's oldest working wine farms, first granted as a title deed by Governor Simon van der Stel in 1692. Since 1993 it has been guided by the Enthoven family, who bought the estate and set about restoring it; Dick Enthoven's daughter Mariota and her partner Angus relocated from London to the Cape in 2004 to lead its environmental and social revival. The farm's 21 Cape Dutch gables — more than any other in the country — have become central to its identity, lending their name to this range.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
