A muscular blend built to age — and, as it happens, made on South Africa’s oldest working wine farm.
Grape Varietals & Region: A blend of 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot, 6% Malbec and 6% Cabernet Franc, sourced from coastal vineyards in Groenekloof (Darling) and Stellenbosch, South Africa. Decomposed granite and clay soils sit just 7–20 kilometres from the cold Atlantic Ocean, giving the fruit real freshness despite the blend’s power.
Taste Profile: Deep ruby red colour. Blackberry, dark cherry and blackcurrant lead the bouquet, backed by cedar, dark chocolate and fennel. Vibrant on the palate, dominated by blackcurrant and dark chocolate — dry and full-bodied, with dense, well-balanced tannins.
Winemaking Process: Grapes are hand-harvested, pre-cooled, de-stemmed and individually sorted, then fermented separately in stainless steel for up to three weeks. Malolactic fermentation and maturation take place in 300L French oak barrels for 18 months (60% first-fill, 40% second-fill) — each varietal crafted on its own before blending, tasted from barrel to find the most harmonious composition.
Winemaker: Spier is one of South Africa’s oldest working wine farms, first granted as a title deed by Governor Simon van der Stel to Arnoud Jansz in 1692 — its cellar is the oldest dated wine cellar still in use in the country. The Enthoven family bought Spier in 1993 and has steered the estate since, balancing nearly 350 years of winemaking history with a modern focus on sustainability and regenerative farming.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
