Orin Swift Cellars 8 Years In The Desert 2021
Solemn, sombre and super cool, this is Dave Phinney's first Zinfandel blend after an eight-year hiatus.
Grape Varietals & Region: A Zinfandel-based blend (Primitivo) sourced from California vineyards, marking Phinney's return to the variety after years away from it.
Taste Profile: Dark garnet colour with a lucid rim. Opens with aromas of briar fruit, ripe blackberry and dark plum, with a tinge of minerality and charred meat. Brawny on entry, with an equally big mid-palate of complex ripe brambly fruit, a touch of earth and notes of espresso bean. Still massive through to the finish, with soft, drying tannins and the blend's unique varietal characteristics revealing themselves over time.
Winemaking Process: Built as a return statement after Phinney stepped away from Zinfandel for eight years, blended and aged to let the variety's brambly, high-toned fruit character come through fully.
Winemaker: Orin Swift Cellars was founded in 1998 by a then 24-year-old Dave Phinney, who named the winery for his father's middle name (Orin) and his mother's maiden name (Swift). His breakout came with The Prisoner in 2000, after which Phinney built a run of unconventional blends wrapped in darkly artful, gothic labels that have made him one of Napa's most recognisable names.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
