Damiano Ciolli "Silene" Cesanese DOC 2022
Named after a wild flower that grows in the fields around the winery, this is the estate's most approachable red.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Cesanese di Affile, from four vineyards planted in different periods just outside Rome, in the small medieval town of Olevano Romano, trained on spurred cordon and 'fan' systems in deep red volcanic soil.
Taste Profile: Ruby red with garnet hues. A pleasantly fruity nose of small red berries carries delicate hints of iron and herbs. Crisp and lean on the palate, nicely balanced, with measured tannin blending neatly into a mineral edge.
Winemaking Process: Grapes are hand harvested at optimal ripeness. Fruit from the different vineyards ferments separately in concrete tanks, spontaneously, over about 10 days. After racking, the Silene ages in cement on its fine lees for roughly a year, is assembled from the different vineyard lots before bottling, then rests a further 3 months in the cellar.
Winemaker: Damiano Ciolli named Silene — the winery's entry point — after a wild flower common in the fields surrounding the estate, a fitting emblem for a wine built to be the easiest, most immediate way into the Ciolli style before stepping up to the estate's more serious Cesanese bottlings.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
