Bellingham Wines Bernard Series Basket Press Syrah 2020
A basket-pressed Syrah from high-lying granite vineyards, built to age a decade or more.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Syrah from high-lying vineyard blocks yielding 4-8 tons per hectare, South Africa. The trellised vines grow on deep, well-drained soils of decomposed granite.
Taste Profile: A powerful, aromatic wine that is assertive yet delicate and refined. Subtle violet and dried indigenous fynbos floral aromas lead into the palate, with ample cracked black and white pepper spice and hints of rich dark chocolate over a raspberry and blackberry foundation. A generously structured wine with ripe tannins that promises further integration. Drink now or cellar up to 10 years.
Winemaking Process: Hand harvested in mid-season at perfect ripeness, with bunch and berry selection on arrival at the cellar before crushing and fermentation. Natural fermentation takes place in open 500L French oak barrels, followed by a gentle pressing in a basket press. The young wine returns to French oak barriques to complete malolactic fermentation, then matures for 12 months in French oak before bottling.
Winemaker: The Bernard Series is Bellingham's tribute to co-founder Bernard Podlashuk, a trail-blazing visionary whose tenacity and innovative flair live on through this range of hand-crafted, site-specific wines. Each release in the series is built to carry an unmistakable stamp of individuality, honouring Podlashuk's maverick spirit.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
