Torbreck Woodcutter's Shiraz 2024
Named for the Scottish forest where its founder once worked as a lumberjack, before he found his calling in abandoned Barossa vines.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Shiraz from the up-and-coming Barossa Valley, South Australia vineyards that supply Torbreck's entry point — younger plantings rather than the battle-hardened old vines that anchor the estate's flagship cuvées, though given the same viticultural and winemaking care regardless. The 2024 growing season was defined by a continuously warm-to-hot summer with no effective rainfall, wind and hail at flowering, and three major frosts, resulting in an earlier, smaller harvest than average — tough conditions that produced smaller clusters of intensely dark berries with thick, fleshy skins.
Taste Profile: Full of freshness and bright, youthful fruit, with aromatic plum and raspberry balanced by a round core of red fruit that gives way to a complex mid-palate of cassis, dark cherry, spice and vanilla. Immensely pleasurable young, but built to develop further with a few more years in the cellar — a fantastic introduction to the Torbreck range, offering a complexity and texture rarely found at this price.
Winemaking Process: Once fermenting in the cellar, the concentration of colour, tannin and aroma from the smaller, more intense 2024 berries was fully revealed despite the reduced yields.
Winemaker: Torbreck was founded in 1994 by David Powell, a former lumberjack who had worked the forest of Torbreck in the Scottish Highlands before entering the Australian wine industry in 1981. While working at Rockford Wines in the Barossa in the early 1990s, Powell discovered several sections of old, dry-grown vines abandoned by their owner; he nursed them back to health and, lacking capital to buy fruit outright, began share-farming across the valley — eventually assembling one of the Barossa's great rosters of growers and helping resurrect some of the world's oldest vineyards along the way.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
