Smaragd is the highest level of quality in Austrian wines.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Riesling grown on soils of loam, loess and Danube gravel. Vom Stein is a sub-site of the Silberbichel vineyard, a gently east-facing slope; Smaragd marks the ripest, highest quality level in the Austrian Wachau's classification system.
Taste Profile: The Riesling Smaragd Vom Stein unfolds an enticing spectrum of scents: yellow fruits like apricot and mirabelle plum meet lemon peel and a nuance of lily of the valley. That fragrance carries breathtaking freshness, coupled with intense minerality and a cool sophistication — the minerality is striking, underpinned by fine tannin, and the long finish, marked by intense fruit, is unsurpassed. A mature wine combining expression and intensity.
Winemaking Process: Made with respect for nature, fermented solely with the natural yeast found on the grapes — no sugar, enzymes or flavour enhancers have any place in the process. After careful storage for two and a half years in large, old wooden barrels, the wine is finally bottled on a fruit day.
Winemaker: With almost 2,000 years of history, Nikolaihof is the oldest winery in Austria and among the first in the world to farm biodynamically under the Demeter Association's standards. The Saahs family took over the estate in 1894, continuing the integrated farming the monks before them had practiced; even as winemaking expanded through the 1960s, no chemicals were ever used. Nikolaihof has farmed biodynamically since 1971 — one of the longest-practicing biodynamic estates anywhere — and became Demeter-certified in 1998, today producing around 95,000 bottles a year.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
