Abrau-Durso Chardonnay 2018
Grown on an ancient ocean floor turned limestone vineyard, just like Chablis.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Chardonnay, from vineyards in the Abrau-Durso valley in the foothills of the Navagir Mountains, Krasnodar, Russia, near the Black Sea. Millions of years ago these vineyards were ocean floor; today, limestone-dominated, sea-mineral-rich soils give the wines a character similar to some of the world's best chalk-soil regions, such as Chablis. The vineyards sit amphitheatrically between green hills, catching maximum sun by day while the nearby sea delivers the night-time chill the grapes need to ripen properly.
Taste Profile: An elegant light straw colour with a golden hue. A refreshing bouquet of spiced vanilla, ripe white peach and meadow flowers leads into a silky, full-bodied, dry palate of crisp green apple and sweet white peach, with mineral notes and subtle oak nuances closing on a long, spicy vanilla finish.
Winemaking Process: Grapes are gently pressed with their stems still on, then fermented under meticulous temperature control in stainless steel tanks and new Tonnellerie Vicard and Tonnellerie François Frères barriques. Malolactic fermentation shapes the wine's style, which then ages on its lees for at least 30 days, 20% of it in French oak, for 8 months.
Winemaker: Abrau-Durso was established in 1870 by decree of Emperor Alexander II, between Lake Abrau and the Durso river on Russia's Black Sea coast. Prince Lev Golitsyn, the "Russian Bacchus," took over the estate in 1891 and brought in French Champagne winemakers to build its sparkling wine programme, and Abrau-Durso became the sole sparkling wine served at the imperial table, a favourite of the last tsar, Nicholas II. After the revolution, Soviet winemaker Anton Frolov-Bagreev relaunched production and established the Charmat method here, preserving the estate's tradition of classical sparkling winemaking into the modern era.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
