Domaine Chotard Sancerre Blanc Marcel Henri 2022
Named for two brothers, two plots, and the vines each of them planted decades apart.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Sauvignon Blanc, from vines averaging 50–60 years old on two of the estate's oldest plots in Crézancy-en-Sancerre, Loire Valley, France, within a cirque of clay-limestone Kimmeridgian marl hills where the plots are sunny all day and the vines' roots reach springs running through the basement. Les Plates sits on a more solar terroir of Lower Kimmeridgian limestone, planted by Marcel, Daniel's father; Les Marnes lies on a cooler, marly Upper Kimmeridgian terroir, planted by Henri, Daniel's uncle — the cuvée's name honours both.
Taste Profile: A pale yellow colour with a nose of melon, grapefruit and white pear, lifted by a hint of wet stones. Full and complex on the palate, with melon, gooseberry, grapefruit and lime citrus flavours cut through by a clean, saline minerality.
Winemaking Process: After a manual harvest and fermentation, the wine ages 18 months to synthesise the character of these old vines.
Winemaker: The Chotard family has grown grapes in Reigny for more than two centuries. Brothers Marcel and Henri once cultivated their vines and vinified their wines separately, each also keeping a little livestock and grain on the side, with Marcel doubling as a cabinetmaker who made his own barrels. Daniel Chotard, Marcel's son, was initially a reluctant vigneron who pursued a career in education before returning to the family domaine; he now lives in Reigny with his wife Brigitte, and his son Simon, an oenologist, has continued the tradition since the 2010 vintage.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
