Orin Swift Cellars Slander 2021
A union of California Pinot Noir with Orin Swift's signature style.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Pinot Noir, blended from fruit sourced across the Sonoma Coast, Russian River Valley and Sta. Rita Hills AVAs in California.
Taste Profile: Glowing cardinal hue. An elegant and complex nose of ripe cherry, dried rose petal, a touch of white pepper and a hint of alpine forest. The balanced, integrated palate carries sweet strawberry, cranberry and traces of rhubarb, closing with a long finish of toasted brioche, a dash of caramel and fresh raspberry.
Winemaking Process: Picked without hesitation and handled gently through fermentation, using punchdowns rather than pumpovers so the grape expresses itself with minimal manipulation. Ages 10 months in French oak, 30% new.
Winemaker: Orin Swift Cellars was founded in 1998 by a then 24-year-old Dave Phinney, who named the winery for his father's middle name (Orin) and his mother's maiden name (Swift). His breakout came with The Prisoner in 2000, after which Phinney built a run of unconventional blends wrapped in darkly artful, gothic labels that have made him one of Napa's most recognisable names.
About the Label
After a decade of trying, Phinney finally cracked a Pinot Noir worth bottling in 2015, once he learned to pick the finicky grape at exactly the right moment before it turned to strawberry jam. The label is deliberately the simplest in the Orin Swift range — a strip of duct tape wrapped around the bottle, a nod to how he used to mark barrel and tank samples when he was starting out. “Two things you always have in a winery are duct tape and marker pens… and cold beer,” Phinney jokes. “Slander is the only wine I make that my wife will drink and she has a much better palate than me.”

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
