Hugel & Fils 'Hugel' Gewurztraminer 2023
A dry Gewurztraminer from a family that's been making Alsace wine since before the Thirty Years' War ended.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Gewürztraminer, hand-harvested from predominantly clay and limestone vineyards scattered across a dozen of the most favoured localities in and around Riquewihr, Alsace, France. A cool, long growing season gave this vintage great finesse and unusual intensity for a dry style — Gewürztraminer here is more often made sweet, so a confidently dry rendering is very much a house signature.
Taste Profile: Aromatic and dry, with the variety's signature lift of lychee running through alongside rose, ginger and citrus pith. Full of finesse rather than weight, with the wine's intensity showing in flavour concentration rather than sweetness.
Winemaking Process: Grapes are carried in small tubs to gravity-fed presses, with no pumping or other mechanical intervention. After pressing, the must is decanted for a few hours, then fermented in temperature-controlled vats between 18 and 24°C. The wine is racked just once, before natural clarification over the winter, and is lightly filtered the following spring just before bottling. The bottles are then aged in cellar until release, sealed under DIAM closures to remove any risk of cork taint.
Winemaker: Famille Hugel has worked the same corner of Riquewihr since 1639, when Hans Ulrich Hugel, a Swiss émigré fleeing the Thirty Years' War, settled there and began making wine. The estate remains entirely family-owned today, now under Jean-Frédéric Hugel, the 13th generation — a run long enough that the Hugels helped write the regional laws governing late-harvest Alsace wines like Vendange Tardive, styles they helped pioneer in the first place.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
