ColleMassari Montecucco Sangiovese Riserva "Poggio Lombrone" DOCG 2013
Named for the ridge it grows on overlooking the Ombrone river valley, Poggio Lombrone is ColleMassari's serious single-vineyard statement in Montecucco — old vines doing the talking.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Sangiovese from old vines (20–50 years) on the Poggio Lombrone vineyard, 300m up in Montecucco, southern Tuscany — organically farmed at a deliberately low yield of around 60 quintals per hectare.
Taste Profile: Delicate and savoury, a complex, elegant Sangiovese. Dark ruby red, opening with an enveloping cherry bouquet, violet and sweet spice. Notes of liquorice, tobacco and oak spice layer over pure fruit, with velvety tannins, integrated acidity, and a long, mineral-tinged finish.
Winemaking Process: Hand-picked, with alcoholic fermentation in open conical wooden vats, followed by an extended malolactic fermentation and 18 months' ageing in 40hl oak barrels, then a further 12 months refining in bottle.
Winemaker: ColleMassari Wine Estates is run by siblings Maria Iris and Claudio Tipa, whose portfolio also includes Grattamacco in Bolgheri, Tenuta San Giorgio in Montalcino, and cult favourite Poggio di Sotto. Poggio Lombrone is the estate's top single-vineyard Sangiovese out of Montecucco.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
