Catena Zapata Malbec Argentino 2022
Saturated in ten centuries of life, death and rebirth — the Catena family's best low-yield Mendoza fruit, hand-tended down to the smallest lot.
Grape Varietals & Region: Malbec made from a meticulous vine selection across the best lots of the Catena family's own estate vineyards in Mendoza, Argentina. The Zapata vines are hand-tended and kept to extremely low yields.
Taste Profile: Saturated dark violet colour with ruby reflections. The nose offers cassis, blueberries and violets alongside a strong suggestion of soil tones, combining density and sweetness with light flavours of mocha, dark berries and spice through to a long finish dominated by sweet black and blue fruit.
Winemaking Process: 20% whole-cluster and 80% whole-berry fruit hand-loaded into 225-500 litre new French oak barrels for 100% barrel fermentation over 30 days, keeping temperatures low to extract intense aroma and managing the cap by hand for soft, gentle extraction. Malolactic fermentation completes in barrel over considerable lees, before 18 months of oak ageing.
Winemaker: Bodega Catena Zapata was founded in 1902 by Italian immigrant Nicola Catena, and it was his grandson Nicolas Catena Zapata who, from the 1980s, drove the research into high-altitude Mendoza terroir that put Argentine Malbec on the world map. Today his daughter, fourth-generation vintner Dr Laura Catena, leads the winery and its Catena Institute of Wine — alongside a career as a practising physician in California — while Alejandro Vigil, chief winemaker since 2002, became the first in South America to earn a 100-point score from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
