A family winery started in 1946 by David Steyltler, he traded his sheep farm for a wine farm after WW2. The family winery is now in it's 4th generation, and has won multiple accolades for their elegant & modern styles of quality South African wines

Description

Kaapzicht Skraalhans Pinotage 2022

Skraalhans is a long gangly weed found in their vineyards, often growing taller than the vines themselves. Loosely translated as lean stray, the name represents this restrained, fresh and elegant new style of Pinotage.

Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Pinotage. From vines aged between 7 and 15 years. These trellised vines are unirrigated and yield between 5–7 tons per hectare.

Taste Profile: This wine is dominated by red fruits with classic cherry and mulberry notes. With a vibrant palate and sweet tannins, this wine has a plush and bright ﬁnish. Matured for 10 months in 500l old barrels.

Winemaking Process: The must was inoculated with biodynamic yeast and only spent 3 days on the skins with two light pump-overs per day. After gently pressing, the wine is transferred to stainless steel tanks for malo-lactic conversion. After completion the wine is racked to 500l old oak barrels to age for 10 months.

Elegant & Structured Reds

From Barolo to Bordeaux, these wines are steeped in tradition. The style covers a broad spectrum of flavor profiles, but tend to be elegant and structured and can be cellared for a long time.

These wines often have savoury tones of earth, bell pepper, tobacco, cassis, and are often medium to full bodied, with long finish & structured palattes

MLF is a process that results in reduction in acidity & the production of buttery texture & taste profile, often applied to more bodied styles of red & white wines
