Biting into a bit of Black Forest cake, in wine form.
Grape Varietals & Region: A blend of eight varietals — 36% Pinotage, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 18% Shiraz, 1% Cinsaut, 1% Malbec, 1% Mourvèdre and 1% Petit Verdot — grown on gentle slopes of weathered shale and decomposed granite over clay, 7 to 40km from the cold Atlantic Ocean in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Vines average 15 to 21 years old, trained on a vertical trellis for careful foliage management.
Taste Profile: Dark, intensely coloured with youthful brightness. A dense concentration of fruit precedes delicate spicy aromas leading into cool vanilla notes. The palate offers Black Forest cake flavours — exuberant layers of red and blackberry, sweet cherry, chocolate, vanilla and marzipan — balanced with a broad palate and subtle tannins. Delightful and complex, and worth decanting.
Winemaking Process: Each varietal is hand-harvested, sorted and fermented individually to develop its true character, then aged separately for 16 months in 300-litre French oak barrels (30% first-fill, 40% second-fill, 30% third-fill). After blending, the wine spends 2 more months integrating before bottling.
Winemaker: Spier's roots go back to 1692, when Governor Simon van der Stel granted the land's first title deed to Arnoud Jansz, making it one of the very first wine farms in Stellenbosch; by 1754 more than 30,000 vines were already under cultivation here. The Creative Block range takes its name from Spier's ongoing art project inviting South African artists to paint small wooden blocks, echoing the same layering and assembly that goes into building a blend.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
