Gulfi "Nerobaronj" Nero d'Avola 2015
Soft with high acid on the palate and fruity notes, from the winery that proved Nero d'Avola could speak in single-vineyard dialects.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Nero d'Avola from the Baronj vineyard, on black clay soils down the hill from the town of Avola, Sicily, Italy — the very birthplace of the grape.
Taste Profile: Ruby red, with intense, deep violet reflections. Aromas of tart wild berry, chalky mineral, wild herbs, citrus and blackberry. Soft with high acid on the palate, carrying fruity notes throughout.
Winemaking Process: Long maceration on skins in stainless steel, wild ferment with native yeast. Aged for 2 years in 225L and 500L barrels, plus a further year or more in bottle.
Winemaker: Gulfi's story began in 1996, when Vito Catania inherited his father's property in Chiaramonte Gulfi, in Sicily's southeastern province of Ragusa, and left behind a career as a chemical-sector entrepreneur in northern Italy to return home. Catania set out to prove that Nero d'Avola, the island's most planted red grape, could express distinct terroir signatures across its southeastern heartland, purchasing key sites including Baronj at Pachino, long renowned for the quality of its Nero d'Avola, and an old vineyard at nearly 2,800 feet on Mount Etna. With consulting winemaker Salvo Foti, Gulfi became the first Sicilian winery to release single-contrada Nero d'Avola wines, producing its first vintage in 1999 at a time when few believed in the grape's potential for terroir-driven expression.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
