Mavrud is one of Bulgaria’s oldest and most celebrated indigenous grape varieties, steeped in tradition and folklore. Its name is thought to derive from the Greek word “mavro”, meaning “black,” a nod to the grape’s deep color and the dark, rich wines it produces.

Taste Profile: Rich in ripe cherries, with hints of mushrooms, dry leaves, walnuts and smoke. On the palate, it has soft embracing tannins, with a strong plummy character
Winemaking Process: Aged for 24 months in French oak
Deep, fruit-driven and jammy; filled with ripe, rich fruit and a plethora of spices. This style is typified by Australian Shiraz, Sonoma Zinfandel and Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
