Momento Mori "Bag of Bones" Piquette 2022
Leftover wine — and if you think leftovers can't be the best part of the meal, you haven't tried piquette.
Piquette is made from pomace, which is simply the skins, seeds, pulp and stems left over after pressing grapes in the winemaking process. The remaining grape matter is steeped in water and rehydrated, allowing fermentation to kick off once more, before it's eventually pressed off, then bottled or canned with a light, natural carbonation.
Grape Varietals & Region: A blend of Schioppettino, Fiano, Pinot Gris, Vermentino and Syrah pomace.
Taste Profile: Fresh, light-bodied and effervescent, with notes of tart red fruit, citrus and a lightly herbal finish — an enjoyable, refreshing and versatile drink that pairs well with a variety of foods.
Winemaking Process: A fair proportion of whole bunches was included, and as most of the fruit is pressed very lightly, there's still plenty left to give — resulting in a "full" and reasonably complex drink for a piquette, that doesn't lack interest. It sits at around 5.7% alcohol, enough substance to stand tall with pet-nats while staying very refreshing thanks to the low alcohol.
Winemaker: Momento Mori is the work of Dane and Hannah Johns, who farm small organic and biodynamic plots in Gippsland, Victoria — two on their home property and another beneath the Black Snake Ranges in the Tonimbuk Valley. Everything is hand-made in small ferments with wild yeast, no new oak, no mechanical pumps, and no fining, filtering or additions — not even sulphur, at any stage. Bag of Bones is their answer to what most wineries throw away: a second wine pressed from the skins and stems left over after the "real" wine is made.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
