Oxer Marko Loretxoa DO Bizkaiko Txakolina 2020
Named for a Basque folk song about a little flower, and aged under a veil of yeast borrowed straight from Fino Sherry.
Grape Varietals & Region: A blend of 50% Hondarribi Zuri Zerratia, 35% Hondarribi Zuri and 15% Izkiriota Txikia, grown on clay loam topsoil over limestone (with pockets of slate) in the village of Kortezubi, Bizkaia — a small Basque town best known for its prehistoric caves and UNESCO World Heritage status. "Loretxoa" means little flower, a reference to a song by acclaimed Basque singer-songwriter Benito Lertxundi; the label also carries a quote from Hermann Hesse about the sun, flowers and clouds finding their own ways to communicate.
Taste Profile: Citrus aromas over a veiled, saline background — the kind of salinity that transports you from the Basque north coast to the Mediterranean south in a single sip. Acidity and salinity define this txakoli more than fruit does.
Winemaking Process: After primary fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine is transferred into ex-Fino Sherry casks filled to 80% capacity, where it ages for 2 months under a veil of flor yeast — the same biological ageing used for Sherry and Jura's Vin Jaune, borrowed here to build texture and complexity into a wine usually prized for pure freshness.
Winemaker: Oxer Bastegieta got into wine in 1999, when his father asked him to make a txakoli for the family restaurant in Kortezubi from a one-hectare plot planted nearby. That early project eventually led him to a master's in viticulture and oenology in Laguardia, deep in Rioja Alavesa — though he's kept a foot in his native Bizkaia the whole time, splitting his winemaking between the family's Txakolina appellation roots and his more personal Rioja project.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
