Hugo Mendes Lisboa Castelão 2022
Bottled early and unapologetically fresh — a Castelão built for salivating, not cellaring.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Castelão from the Lisboa region of Portugal.
Taste Profile: An intense red colour with aromas of wild berries, black pepper and fine spices. Fresh and full of bright red fruit notes, with an herbal touch of tree bark and pine needles that makes you salivate. Ripe tannins, medium body and a medium-high acidity keep it fresh and enveloping, closing in a long, persistent finish.
Winemaking Process: The grapes are picked at the same time and fermented together in a simple vinification: total destemming, closed vat, spontaneous fermentation, and pumping over as often as necessary, followed by early pressing. Malolactic fermentation happens spontaneously, and 20% of the wine is aged in barrels to help season the fruit.
Winemaker: Hugo Mendes Wines works out of the Lisboa region on Portugal's west coast, where Hugo built a reputation for bottling fresh, uncompromising expressions of local grapes like Castelão early, before oak or time can round off their edges — a style that favours immediacy and drinkability over convention.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
