What a tease — five Bordeaux varietals playing hard to get before this Stellenbosch estate coaxes them into harmony.
Grape Varietals & Region: A five-varietal Bordeaux blend — 47% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc, 13% Malbec and 7% Petit Verdot — grown on De Toren's Polkadraai Hills estate in Stellenbosch, South Africa, where an unusually thorough soil survey, sampling at three times the industry's standard rate, identified 15 distinct soil types across the property's 25 hectares.
Taste Profile: Tantalisingly soft on the tongue, with a hint of aniseed, liquorice, raspberry and cranberry lending fresh acidity to a polished finish — all wrapped in the finesse that makes Bordeaux-style blends so prized among the world's most enthusiastic wine lovers. A soft, approachable, ruby-hued wine that's a true testament to vines lovingly reared and winemaking raised to an art form.
Winemaking Process: Aged in a climate-controlled barrel room (16°C, 80% humidity) for 12 months in 225L French and American oak — the Malbec component aged exclusively in American oak.
Winemaker: De Toren was founded in 1991 by Emil and Sonette den Dulk, who left Johannesburg for a fresh start in Stellenbosch after being captivated by the view stretching to Table Mountain. What began as a small hobby on the Polkadraai Hills grew into a serious Bordeaux-blend specialist: working with academics from Stellenbosch University, the couple commissioned an unusually thorough soil survey that mapped 15 separate soil types across the estate. Their first wine, the five-varietal Fusion V, was released in 1999; new majority ownership took over the estate following Emil den Dulk's retirement in 2019.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
