Azienda Agricola COS Maldafrica Rosso Terre Siciliane IGP 2019
Maldafrica denotes an "inner longing for a distant land" — not love at first sight, but one of the most interesting wines of Sicily.
Grape Varietals & Region: A blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, organically grown in Fontane, Vittoria (RG), south-eastern Sicily, on medium-consistency red soil formed of sub-Apennine sands of Pliocene origin, limestone-siliceous in nature, interwoven with compact layers of fresh clay and siliceous sand.
Taste Profile: Maldafrica overwhelms the senses with dark fruit, spice, chopped herbs, salty notes, sulphur, leather and damp tobacco. The mouthfeel runs over a minute long, its acidity providing just enough astringency to refresh the senses against all that opulence.
Winemaking Process: Spontaneous fermentation in terracotta amphorae, on the skins with indigenous yeasts, aged in Slavonian barrels and bottle.
Winemaker: Azienda Agricola COS takes its name from the initials of three childhood friends from Vittoria — Giambattista Cilia, Giusto Occhipinti and Cirino Strano — who founded the winery together in 1980. Giusto Occhipinti (known as "Titta") remains at COS today, having helped pioneer the return to amphora fermentation and low-intervention winemaking in Sicily, and mentoring a generation of the island's natural wine producers, including his niece Arianna Occhipinti.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
