A tribute to century-old Monastrell vines, cloned straight from the family's own great-grandfather's plantings.
Grape Varietals & Region: A blend of 70% 35-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon and ancient Monastrell, grown on a north-facing slope in the highlands of Jumilla, Spain. Roots pierce stony topsoil into a coarse limestone layer and touch the sandy strip beneath — harsh, low-rainfall conditions that concentrate the fruit's intensity.
Taste Profile: Glass-staining purple colour. Explosive aromas of boysenberry, plum, blueberry, chocolate and a hint of pipe tobacco. Elegant and silky, with a lush, smooth mouthfeel — generous plum and boysenberry fruit wrapped in oak and dark chocolate, closing with a juicy, long finish.
Winemaking Process: The wine ages 24 months in French and American oak barrels before bottling — well beyond the minimum required for Spain's Crianza classification (two years total ageing, at least one in oak).
Winemaker: Bodegas El Nido is a joint project between Australian winemaker Chris Ringland, Spanish importer Jorge Ordóñez and the Gil family of Bodegas Juan Gil, founded in 2002 to push Jumilla's quality revolution forward. The estate was conceived by the fourth generation of the Gil family as a tribute to their great-grandfather Juan Gil Giménez's original century-old Monastrell plantings, cloned and replanted across the Aragona Valley's 44 hectares of vines.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
