Full Bodied Wines
Often used to describe wines that have a rich, weighty & robust character, these wines tend to have some of the following characteristics:
- Richness: Full-bodied wines often have a higher concentration of flavors, giving a sense of depth and intensity. This richness can manifest in various ways, depending on the type of wine
- Alcohol Content: Full-bodied wines tend to have a higher alcohol content. This contributes to the wine's viscosity and can create a warming sensation.
- Tannins: Red full-bodied wines, in particular, may have pronounced tannins. Tannins are compounds found in grape skins, seeds, and stems that contribute to a wine's structure and can impart a drying sensation in the mouth.
- Complexity: Full-bodied wines often showcase a diverse range of aromas and flavors, and they can evolve and develop additional complexities with aging.
- Mouthfeel: The texture of a full-bodied wine can be described as "chewy" or "full," coating the palate with its flavors.
Examples of full-bodied wines include many red varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah (Shiraz), Merlot, and some white wines like oaked Chardonnay
