Shofang Muscat Hamburg 2025
A 200-year-old Hebei heirloom grape, bred for the table and rescued for the glass — some of these vines were planted in the 1940s.
Grape Varietals & Region: Muscat Hamburg (also called Black Hamburg), a variety with roughly two centuries of history in Hebei despite originally being bred as a glasshouse table grape rather than a wine grape. Some of the vines feeding this bottling were planted in the 1940s — heritage fruit that would otherwise have gone the way of most of the region's old plantings, dug up for higher-yielding, more commercial varieties. Shofang, founded in 2019 by Hu Shofang and Levi Lee in Qinhuangdao, has made old-vine Muscat Hamburg something of a signature, treating it as a serious wine grape rather than the curiosity most of China's wine industry considers it.
Taste Profile: Fragrant and grapey in the classic Muscat way, made in a rosé style — pretty red-berry and floral aromatics with a soft, juicy palate and refreshing acidity. Chill it down and drink it on its own, or alongside light, spiced Chinese dishes.
Winemaking Process: Minimal-intervention winemaking in the Australian style both winemakers trained in — gentle handling of old, own-rooted vines, aiming for purity and elegance over extraction or heavy oak influence.
Winemaker: Shofang Hu inherited her family's vineyard, where the fruit had always been sold anonymously into industrial-scale wineries; she trained in Xi'an before heading to Australia to work vintages in McLaren Vale, then came home with partner Levi Lee (Adelaide-trained) to make wine from the old vines her family had been growing — and selling away — for generations.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
