English Sparkling: The Next Champagne?
Believe it or not, England has become one of the most exciting places for sparkling wine in recent years. The cool climate and chalky soils (just like in Champagne!) make the southern counties—like Sussex and Kent—ideal for growing Champagne grapes.
Winemaking: English Sparkling is almost always made in the traditional method using Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. Expect refined bubbles, bright acidity, and flavor notes ranging from citrus and green apple to brioche and toasted almonds—especially with some age.
Food Pairing: It’s brilliant with fish and chips, oysters, or anything with a little fat or crunch. Basically, if it’s salty, savory, or deep-fried, English fizz is your friend.
