Meyer-Näkel Spätburgunder "S" 2022
S stands for Steep Slope Selection: a darker-styled Pinot with a multi-layered finish that leaves you craving more.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Pinot Noir from the Ahr Valley, Germany, grown on steep, south-facing slopes perfectly angled toward the sun. Soils of weathered slate and greywacke warm quickly and hold heat, creating ideal ripening conditions for Pinot Noir this far north.
Taste Profile: Bright ruby red. Notes of violet, strawberry and ripe forest berries with a touch of caramel. Structured and balanced, with well-judged acidity and tannin over a smooth body, closing on an elegant finish.
Winemaking Process: Aged in large, used oak barrels.
Winemaker: The estate's name traces back to the 1950 marriage of grandparents Paula Meyer and Willibald Näkel, who farmed just 1.5 hectares but made a name for themselves with Willibald's dry red wines — genuinely pioneering at a time when German wine was almost always sweet. Werner Näkel took over in the 1980s and became one of Germany's most important vintners; today the estate is run by third-generation sisters Meike and Dörte, alongside parents Werner and Claudia, bringing a fresh take to the Ahr Valley's slate soils and Pinot Noir.

The name of the wine estate goes back to the marriage of grandparents Paula Meyer and Willibald Näkel in 1950. Like many wineries in the Ahr, Meyer-Näkel focuses mainly on Pinot Noir (or as it’s known locally, Spätburgunder).

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
