A grain-and-pasta wholesaler traded it all in at 48 to chase a dream of making great Brunello, and his son turned it into a Wine Spectator Wine of the Year.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Sangiovese from dedicated Casanova di Neri vineyards in Montalcino, Italy, farmed with the same attention given to fruit destined for the estate's Brunello. Enjoy now or hold 10–15 years from vintage.
Taste Profile: A strong identity, ready for immediate enjoyment. Lively, bright red in the glass, with red and black cherry, raspberry and a hint of violet on the nose. The medium-bodied palate is rich and elegant, with a thick tannic texture and a persistent finish.
Winemaking Process: Manual bunch selection before destemming, followed by a second selection through an optical sorter. Spontaneous fermentation without added yeasts, then maceration via frequent pressing in conical steel vats at controlled temperature for 18 days. Ages 12 months in wood.
Winemaker: Giovanni Neri had built a successful grain and pasta-wheat business around Arezzo before deciding, at 48, to chase a dream of making great wine instead — he bought the estate in 1971, renamed it Casanova di Neri ("the new house of the Neri family"), and released his first Brunello in 1978. His son Giacomo joined in 1986 and took over the estate after Giovanni's death in 1991, going on to win Wine Spectator's Wine of the Year in 2006 for the 2001 Tenuta Nuova Brunello. Giacomo still runs the estate today, and puts it simply: "Our greatest pride is our vineyards: their high quality and their history."

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
