A single-vineyard Rioja from an estate whose family history stretches back to 1840.
Grape Varietals & Region: A blend of 85% Tempranillo, 10% Mazuelo and 5% Garnacha, from Marqués de Vargas' 50-hectare Pradolagar vineyard in Rioja, Spain. The vines average 35 years old, grown in poor, shallow, infertile calcareous clay soils with free drainage that keeps vegetative vigour in check, farmed sustainably without herbicides or pesticides.
Taste Profile: A ruby red colour with vibrant character. Ripe red fruit aromas open the nose, featuring cherries, raspberries and a touch of sweet spiciness. Complex, dry and full-bodied on the palate, with elegant tannins, juicy acidity and great structure, plus a thick, creamy mouthfeel carrying red fruit, chocolate and balsamic notes. Best decanted for an hour before serving.
Winemaking Process: Grapes are hand-harvested and destemmed, then fermented in stainless steel for 11–13 days at 29–30°C with daily remontage and pumping over. A 12-day post-fermentation maceration builds a voluptuous texture. The wine ages 20 months in American, French and Russian oak from several coopers, racked regularly, then bottled without fining or filtering.
Winemaker: The Marqués de Vargas story dates to 1840, when Don Felipe de la Mata, VIII Marqués de Vargas, planted the first vines on the Pradolagar estate. The family dream of a namesake winery was finally realised in 1989, when Pelayo de la Mata, XIII Marqués de Vargas, and his brothers built the winery on the family estate in Rioja Alta, inspired by the philosophy of French châteaux and crafting Reservas exclusively from their own vineyards.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
