The sweet wine Napoleon requested in exile, still made on the estate that started South Africa's wine industry in 1685.
Grape Varietals & Region: Muscat de Frontignan (Muscat) from Groot Constantia, South Africa's oldest wine-producing estate, founded in 1685 by Cape Governor Simon van der Stel in the Constantia valley below Table Mountain — the birthplace of the legendary 18th-century "Constantia Wyn" that this bottling revives.
Taste Profile: Deep straw, nearly amber in colour. This legendary sweet wine shows honey, apricot, pineapple and Turkish delight on the nose, with sweet dried fruit following on the palate. Natural acidity balances the sweetness, leaving a moreish finish.
Winemaking Process: A long ripening period lets the sweet berries soak up adequate sunlight to produce this golden nectar. The grapes are fermented on the skins for about a week, then pressed. After fermentation, the wine is racked and returned to barrel to mature for a further 24 months.
Winemaker: Groot Constantia was founded in 1685 by Simon van der Stel, the Cape's Dutch East India Company governor, making it South Africa's oldest continuously producing wine estate. Its sweet Constantia wine won international acclaim through the 18th century, drawing praise from Napoleon, who requested bottles from the estate during his exile on Saint Helena. Grand Constance is the estate's modern revival of that historic style.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
