BK Wines Pet Nat Chardonnay 2022
A chef-turned-winemaker's downtime hobby of two spare barrels of Pinot Noir eventually became one of Basket Range's defining labels.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Chardonnay from a high, steep, organic site in Basket Range North, Adelaide Hills, planted in 1989 to four varieties, with thick sandstone, quartz and red clay soils at 350 metres elevation.
Taste Profile: Beautifully settled and clear, with just a dusting of lees at the base of the bottle. All the flowers-and-biscuit character and foamy mousse of a good blanc de blancs, minus the fuss — proof there's no shortage of interest and beauty to be found in simplicity.
Winemaking Process: Hand harvested, then whole-bunch pressed into concrete egg fermenters for a wild yeast fermentation taken nearly to dryness before bottling to finish in bottle.
Winemaker: Brendon Keys trained as a chef before completing a viticulture and oenology degree in his native New Zealand, then worked in California with Paul Hobbs and helped him set up a winery in Argentina. He and his wife Kirstyn eventually felt the pull to settle somewhere permanent, and having seen the quality of Adelaide Hills fruit while working in McLaren Vale, they headed back to found BK Wines in 2007. The label itself began almost by accident — two barrels of Pinot Noir Brendon put together in his downtime during someone else's vintage, bottled to cover costs, with his initials migrating from side project to brand name.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
