Located in the heart of the Muscadet Sèvre et Maine appellation, on the Fay d'Homme near Monnières, the Caillé family has owned this domaine for 5 generations. Vincent Caillé, who took over the family vineyard in 1986, is part of a new generation of winegrowers determined to pursue an uncompromising quality policy.
Vincent Caillé is a 5th generation winemaker. In fact, he is a blend since both of his parents came from different winemaking families. In addition to benefiting from different influences, Vincent also has a wide range of inherited parcels. His domaine ranges across 4 towns, 3 soil types, and 14 kilometres of prime Loire-Atlantique terroir. Vincent started working his father’s parcels in 1986 and took over the 4 hectares when his father retired in 1992. Today, Vincent owns 14 hectares with his wife Sylvie, continuing the family story for another generation.
Vincent’s wines harken back to the “good old days” when nature was queen. Throughout the 20th century, winemaking schools, high-tech cellars and agricultural chemicals changed the way wine was made. But the vines at Domaine Le Fay d-Homme have been cultivated “organically” since 1996, and now with biodynamic practices too. Vincent’s goal is as simple as producing great grapes! If hard and good work is put into the vineyard, less intervention will be needed in the cellar. Natural winemaking isn’t lazy, it takes much more work early on in the entire process. Vincent’s style leads to a very expressive Gros Plant, and a pure, laser beam Muscadet that expresses the identity of the various terroirs he farms (orthogneiss, gabbro and granite) and aromatic, light-bodied reds (Abouriou, Cabernet Franc, Côt, and Gamay).
