Tornatore Etna Rosso DOC Riserva 2016
Grape Varietals & Region: A blend of Nerello Cappuccio & Nerello Mascalese. The Riserva comes from the oldest vineyards of the estate, known locally as the 'relics.' Small terraces along the slopes of Mount Etna, supported by ancient walls, were meticulously restored by Tornatore, and are the home to these treasured old vines. This wine represents the perfect synthesis of the magnetism of Etna - where with hard work and patience, great things happen.
Taste Profile: A very graceful, quietly complex red with red berries that are tinged with the mildest of spice. An intense ruby red color, typical mineral notes on the nose, with evident hints of red fruits, especially morello cherries, capers, seaweed and red mulberries. In the mouth it is crunchy, fresh with surprising sapidity, length and fullness. Equipped with a good structure, denoting a sure longevity.
Winemaking Process: The grapes, a few bunches, two or three per plant, are vinified in wooden vats where they macerate for about two weeks. After racking, the wine obtained is left to decant, until clearing, in a concrete tank before being decanted into 25 hl French oak barrels. From this moment on, a long process of refinement begins.
Only after 3 years of aging in the same barrel, the wine is poured into a concrete tank for another six months before being bottled. At this point it is awaited for another six months, evaluating its evolution. This product represents the perfect synthesis of the magnetism of Etna where to do well it takes a lot of patience and a lot of time.
