Daterra Casas de Enriba is a tribute to the old winegrowers who made wine with patience and respect. A fresh and tasty Mencía that is full of delicious contrasts.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Mencia, from Ribeira Sacra in Galicia, Spain. Daterra Casas de Enriba comes from Laura's 20 year old vineyard lying on the steep slopes of the Xares River. This is a wonderful landscape located 550 metres above sea level with granitic soils with a sandy loam texture. The vines are cultivated using environmentally friendly agriculture and biodynamic practices.
Taste Profile: Daterra Casas de Enriba 2019 is a smooth red wine with mineral aromas, floral notes and hints of red fruit. On the palate it is fresh, flavoursome and persistent. A young wine with vibrant acidity and marked tannins.
Winemaking Process: Grapes are partially destemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts. Malolactic fermentation then takes place in 4,000-litre French oak barrels for 12 months. Finally, the wine is bottled without refining, filtering or using additives, except for a minimal amount of sulphite.
Easy drinking red wines with bright fruit aromas and low tannins. The wines are often released without much aging in tank, oak barrels or bottle, and are meant to be drunk early
These wines typically can be nejoyed without food, and are usually served cooler. They can be light bodied wines like Beaujolais, or light extraction styles that do not emphasize tannin & color extraction
MLF is a process that results in reduction in acidity & the production of buttery texture & taste profile, often applied to more bodied styles of red & white wines
While not all creamy whites or rich fruity reds undergo MLF, and can adopt similar profiles from barrel ageing,

Founded in 2019, we were bored with the typical Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Amarone & Moscato offerings at most bars & restaurants, and were inspired to dive deeper into the wine world!
