Old Road Wine “The Butcher And Cleaver” Cape Blend 2020
A big, bold and beautifully expressive Cape Blend.
Grape Varietals & Region: 60% Shiraz, 30% Pinotage and 10% Mourvèdre. The Shiraz comes mainly from Stellenbosch with a few barrels from Paarl, and the Pinotage entirely from Stellenbosch, all off rich granite soils, South Africa. The Mourvèdre comes from a 16-year-old bush-vine vineyard in the Agter Paarl.
Taste Profile: Opens with ripe berries and a cinnamon spiciness. Full-bodied on the palate, with smooth, rich tannins and refreshing acidity, carrying robust dark red and blackberry fruit alongside generous cigar box and leather nuances and a spicy smokiness that lasts well beyond the finish.
Winemaking Process: Given lavish cellar treatment: 14 months in oak, 50% of it new and the rest second- and third-fill.
Winemaker: Old Road Wine Co. opened its doors in Franschhoek in December 2018, backed by an investor group led by Tim Hutchinson and built around the valley's Old Vine Project — bottling grapes from vines many other producers would have long since pulled out. Head winemaker Ryan Puttick, who grew up on a crop farm near Hartswater in the Northern Cape, leads both Old Road and its sister label Franschhoek Cellar, drawn to how a bottle of old-vine wine can carry a farm's whole history in a single glass.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
