Lindquist Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard Grenache 2020
Grape Varietals & Region: 80% Grenache & 20% Syrah from the Sawyer Lindquist vineyard in Edna Valley, California. Planted in 2005, the gravelly sandy loam soils have loads of marine fossils, Obispo Formation Mudstone, Monterery formation shale as well as an underlying volcanic influence due to the many dormant volcanic caps that dot the area. The vineyard is about 5.5 miles from the Pacific Ocean and Edna Valley has the longest grape growing season in California, yielding well balanced, fully flavored grapes with excellent structure. The vineyard is Demeter Certified Biodynamic.
Taste Profile: This is classic cool climate Grenache, with that beautiful cherry red color and wild cherry aromas as well. It also has nice, cool climate spice notes
Winemaking Process: The two varietals were fermented separately in small open top fermenters with manual punch down, no whole clusters were used. After fermentation and pressing, the Grenache was transferred directly to barrel to minimize any oxidation. The Syrah was collected in a tank and racked with air once before transferring to barrel. Both wines were aged in neutral French oak barrels for 22 months. The Grenache was kept on its lees without racking, while the Syrah was racked once after the first year.
