Crystallum Peter Max Pinot Noir 2023
Named for the growers who supplied the fruit for its very first vintage — the name has stuck long after the sources changed.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Pinot Noir sourced from four vineyards: three in the Hemel-en-Aarde area of Walker Bay, South Africa, plus a new high-altitude, inland site. The philosophy is to blend the different parcels into something greater than the sum of its parts.
Taste Profile: A wonderfully elegant, full and perfumed Pinot Noir. Pale ruby colour, with loads of red fruit aromas alongside a hint of mushroom and earthy forest floor. The full, fruit-forward palate offers strawberry tea, ripe raspberry, sour cherry, cranberry and pomegranate, layered with mushroom, forest floor, minerals and a light smokiness. Young and dry, with fresh acidity and subtle tannins — good to drink now but will improve through 2030.
Winemaking Process: Hand-sorted fruit with 10-100% whole-bunch inclusion depending on vineyard and vintage, fermented with indigenous yeast in open-top fermenters and given a slow, extended maceration. Matured in 228L and 500L lightly toasted French oak barrels to preserve the fruit's purity.
Winemaker: Crystallum was founded in 2007 by brothers Peter-Allan and Andrew Finlayson, third-generation Finlayson winemakers whose father Peter Finlayson pioneered Pinot Noir in the Hemel-en-Aarde valley, first at Hamilton Russell Vineyards in 1977 and then at his own Bouchard Finlayson from 1989. Peter-Allan oversees the cellar while Andrew tends the vineyards; in 2021 Peter-Allan was named Tim Atkin MW's South African Winemaker of the Year.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
