Another expression of the same two-century, women-led story — this time built entirely around Merlot.
Grape Varietals & Region: A genuine cru: 100% Merlot from Petra’s estate vineyard close to the winery, on a well-ventilated hill at the edge of Mediterranean shrubland overlooking the sea.
Taste Profile: Deep ruby red. Rich aromas of dark and red fruit with subtle spice, balsamic, rosemary and liquorice. Elegant and well-balanced, with a dense body, pleasant minerality, fine tannins and an enduring bouquet — smooth dark plum, blueberry jam, dried raspberry and black cherry on the palate, vibrant and harmonious through a long finish.
Winemaking Process: Grapes are picked at optimum ripeness and fermented in temperature-controlled tapered oak vats. The wine ages 15 months — half in new barriques, half in once-used — followed by 10 further months in bottle.
Winemaker: Petra’s story began in 1808, when Elisa Bonaparte Baciocchi — Napoleon’s sister and Princess of Lucca and Piombino — chose this stretch of Tuscan coast near Suvereto for an agricultural and viticultural project. Nearly two centuries later, in 1997, Vittorio Moretti acquired the estate together with his daughter Francesca, who left veterinary medicine behind after a father-daughter trip to Bordeaux convinced her to pursue winemaking instead. The estate’s tunnel-shaped cellar, designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta, was completed in 2003 — and Petra still describes itself as it has always been run: a women’s company.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
