Gut Hermannsberg Rotenberg Riesling Kabinett 2023
The winery can look back on an eventful history. Founded at the beginning of the 20th century, it had a brilliant time as a state wine-growing domain from the 1960s to the 1980s and was undoubtedly one of Germany's top wineries. But the splendor and fame of the Royal Prussian wine-growing domain were soon lost. Only since Jens Reidel and Christine Dinse took over the estate in 2009, made Karsten Peter cellar master and estate manager and turned everything upside down, has the winery returned to its glory days - now under a new name: Gut Hermannsberg
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Riesling from the Nahe, Germany. This label comes from their steepest vineyard, the Rotenberg in Altenbamberg, classified as a VDP.Grosse Lage site. As a Kabinett, the label is classified as VDP.Gutswein
During the Rotliegend period, its soils were formed, interspersed with rhyolite, formerly referred to as quartz porphyry. This unique mineral composition imbues the wines with a special character, making Rotenberg distinct. The gentle breeze surrounding its heights adds that extra touch, allowing the grapes to ripen fully.
Taste Profile: A very delicate, elegant, and incredibly fresh wine. Aromas of citrus fruits like Amalfi lemon and tangerine dominate the flavor. The fine sweetness accentuates the harmonious acidity, giving the wine both a certain juiciness and a powerful freshness, along with the typical mineral spiciness of the volcanic soil.
Winemaking Process: Selective harvesting by hand. The must undergoes spontaneous fermentation & maturation in steel tanks
