Blankbottle "Kortpad Kaaptoe 2.0" 2022
Named for a footpath Pieter Walser stumbled onto between the Swartland and Cape Town, leading him to a stand of old bush vines.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Fernão Pires from a single old-vine, unirrigated bush-vine parcel in the Swartland flatlands, on sandy topsoil over "Koffieklip" subsoil, 100 metres above sea level. This skin-contact bottling is drawn from several passes through the vineyard at different ripeness levels.
Taste Profile: A lovely gentle golden colour, with dried apricots, white pepper, matcha green tea powder and exotic spices — dried ginger and saffron. Lovely weight and a mouth-coating texture with excellent length; try it with a massaman curry.
Winemaking Process: Grapes picked across several ripeness levels and cooled overnight to 4°C, handled differently by picking — some fermented as whole clusters, some destemmed for skin-contact fermentation — in French oak (nothing new) and amphora, with a single sulfur addition and 10 months on the lees before blending and bottling.
Winemaker: Blankbottle is Pieter H. Walser's project, sourcing unusual parcels across the Cape Winelands rather than farming an estate of his own; the Kortpad Kaaptoe line takes its name from the shortcut path Walser followed when he first found this Swartland vineyard.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
