Leeu Passant Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
A Swartland power couple goes hunting for old vines outside their home turf, one Stellenbosch parcel at a time.
Grape Varietals & Region: A blend of parcels from the cooler parts of Stellenbosch, South Africa: one parcel of 39-year-old, dry-farmed bush-vine Cabernet Sauvignon planted in deep alluvial soils at Firgrove, two parcels on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain, and one parcel in the deep decomposed granite soils of the Polkadraai Hills.
Taste Profile: Classically aromatic, with notes of mulberry, dried orange rind, pencil shavings and kapokbos (wild rosemary) on the nose. The palate rewards with cassis and fresh Sapphire plum, cupped by elegant, silky tannins — richness and power balanced by real freshness and finesse.
Winemaking Process: Grapes are hand-harvested and destemmed to tank with only minimal SO2 added. Indigenous yeast fermentation begins after about 4 days, with pigeage or pump-overs twice daily, temperatures held under 28°C over 10-18 days, followed by 3 weeks of extended maceration. The wine is then drained, pressed to barrel, racked in late winter, blended in spring, and bottled after 20 months in barrel.
Winemaker: Leeu Passant was founded in 2013 when Swartland winemakers Chris and Andrea Mullineux partnered with Analjit Singh of Leeu Estate to make wine from exceptional old vineyards outside their home region. Viticulturist Rosa Kruger played a key role in scouting the Stellenbosch, Wellington and Franschhoek sites that built the label, which follows the same minimal-intervention philosophy as the Mullineuxes' Swartland wines.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
