The Old Road Wine Co. tells the story of special vines grown in the rugged corners of the Franschhoek wine country.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Syrah from vineyards in the rugged corners of Franschhoek wine country, South Africa. These lofty vineyards are watched over by a local Verreaux's eagle nesting on the range's eastern slopes; local legend has it that the South Easter wind, which cools the slopes through summer, carries the peppery spice that gives this wine its name.
Taste Profile: An intense wine with layered ripe berries, natural spice and exceptional structure — characterised by an excellent balance between bright, juicy fruit and integrated, spicy oak, acidity and earthy minerality, closing on a refreshing finish.
Winemaking Process: Grapes were hand-harvested in small bins at optimal ripeness, given extended skin contact for colour and flavour extraction before being racked to barrel for fermentation. After primary fermentation, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation in barrel, followed by 18 months' maturation in the same second- and third-fill French oak.
Winemaker: Old Road Wine Co. was founded in Franschhoek in 2017 by a group of investors led by Tim Hutchinson, CEO of the Douglas Green Bellingham group, with a cellar set on the town's old main road. The project celebrates the valley's heritage of prized old vines, working single vineyards and single regions to bring the characters and traders of Franschhoek's early wine trade back to life, one specific site at a time.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
