Gallety Cuvee Vallée du Rhone 2019
Gallety Vallée du Rhone is a racy wine with great drinkability. Generous aroma of black fruits. The palate is deep but balanced with a good acidity and fine tannins. Offers ripe blackberry with notes of red fruits, liquorice, black olives, a graphite mineral vibrancy and earthy accents.
Ageing potential: 10 years.
50% Syrah and 50% Grenache. The fruit comes from 40–45 year-old vines planted on clay-limestone soils in Ardèche, Côtes du Vivarais. The vineyard has been organically cultivated since 1979, experiences a continental climate and has an altitude of 250–350 metres. The hill the vineyards were planted on run down the western flank of the Rhône, just south of Montélimar, and mirror those of the Côtes du Rhône on the opposite bank of the river, but are cooler and wetter with a longer ripening season. Majority of the upper slopes lends itself to Syrah (cordon de Royat), whilst the lower slopes are reserved for Grenache (cordon de Royat and gobelet).
Manual harvesting and partial destemming. Natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts, separated by variety and plot. Maceration for 21 days in cement tanks with pump-overs and punch-downs 3–4 times a day. The wine ages in neutral oak barrels for 14–15 months. No fining or filtering before bottling.
