Domaine Philippe Gilbert Clos de Treilles Blanc AOC 2020
Domaine Philippe Gilbert is one of the top producers in Menetou-Salon, a lesser-known AOC that borders Sancerre. While obscure in comparison to its neighbor, Menetou-Salon has great terroirs; Gilbert's fantastic wines – some of the region's very best – are proof.
The domaine is equally adept at producing both mineral, fine-boned whites (Sauvignon Blanc) and silky, noble reds (Pinot Noir), both of which impress even at the entry-level domaine bottlings
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Sauvignon Blanc. This wine is made from grapes planted on 2.2 hectares of Le Clos des Treilles, a slope on the Parassy commune facing south/southeast. The vineyard, planted in the early 1970s, extends over a sedimentary clayey-limestone soil of the Kimmeridgian, rich in siliceous limestone.
Taste Profile: The concentration and minerality give this wine a fruit of great consistency and excellent aging capacity. We will appreciate its color with golden reflections, with a nuanced nose of spices and citrus fruits. It is a full and complex wine, which will give itself over time. Perfect balance, a mark of the terroir. Its richness and complexity will be particularly welcome as an aperitif, served in a carafe. This wine will also pay homage to fish, shellfish in sauce, foie gras.
Winemaking Process: This wine is aged in 60hl tuns on the lees without stirring for 18 months.
