The "second wine" of the only winery still producing serious wine inside Syria — made a few kilometres from an active conflict zone.
Grape Varietals & Region: A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) and Syrah (40%), grown at 900 metres on Jabal al-Ansariyeh — Mount Bargylus in antiquity — in the Coastal Mountain Range above the port city of Latakia, on a mix of limestone, flint and clay. Jabal ("mountain" in Arabic) is Domaine de Bargylus's second wine, made to the same standards as the estate's flagship Bargylus red, just built for earlier drinking. The Saadé family — brothers Sandro and Karim, who also own Château Marsyas in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley — began planting here in 2003 and released their first vintage in 2006, reviving a winemaking history on this mountain that dates back to the Hellenistic and Roman eras.
Taste Profile: Structured and serious for a "second" wine — dark fruit, spice and the kind of mineral lift you'd expect from limestone-flint soil at real altitude. Jancis Robinson has called the estate's wines "arguably the finest wine of the Eastern Mediterranean," and while Jabal is the more accessible sibling, that pedigree shows. Good with grilled lamb, kofta, or anything off charcoal.
Winemaking Process: Aged in oak barrels for six to eight months — shorter and gentler than the flagship red, aimed at a wine that's ready sooner without losing structure.
Winemaker: The Saadé family has kept this winery running through a civil war that's brought fighting within meters of the property more than once, and turned what used to be a simple overland shipment to Beirut into a logistics chain that now runs from Latakia to Port Said in Egypt and back to Beirut just to get bottles out of the country. That the wine still gets made — and still gets taken seriously by critics abroad — is as much the story here as anything in the glass.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
