Bozal Cenizo Mezcal 750ML
A single-varietal mezcal true to the distinct character of wild, high-altitude Cenizo maguey.
Made from Cenizo, a wild agave of the Durangensis family typically harvested from the hillsides of Durango at altitudes up to 8,500ft in cool, dry conditions, then produced by traditional mezcaleros using copper pot stills. It opens with bright aromas of tropical fruit, sweet honey and earthy redwood; the palate is driven by big fruit flavours of elderberry, papaya and stone fruit, with hints of black pepper and roasted green pepper adding spice to a slight smokiness on a smooth, long finish.
Bozal was founded in 2016 by August Sebastiani, a multigenerational winemaker who approached mezcal through a vintner's sense of terroir; in November 2024 the brand returned to Mexican ownership under Maguey Spirits. The name means "wild" or "untamed," a nod to the wild agave species harvested from remote, uncultivated hillsides across Oaxaca, Guerrero and Durango, and to the untamed, family-run traditions of the mezcaleros who distil it. Agave hearts are still cooked in earthen pit ovens and crushed by a traditional stone tahona wheel, and for every wild maguey harvested, two more are replanted in a mountainside nursery to be returned to the wild.

The Spanish term, bozal, translates to “wild” or “untamed.” They chose this name for their Mezcal in reference to the wild species of Mexican agave grown in hard-to-reach, uncultivated lands of Oaxaca, Guerrero and Durango.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
