264 Chungpodo Winery "The Wild Plain" 2021
Named after Yi Yuksa's most famous resistance poem — a gold-award white built on Korea's own grape.
Grape varietal & region: Cheongsu, a Korean-bred white hybrid grape, grown on volcanic granite-and-basalt soil ("Macbanseok") in 264 Chungpodo Winery's vineyards near Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea. "The Wild Plain" takes its name from Gwang-ya, Yi Yuksa's best-known poem — written under Japanese colonial rule, imagining barren, frozen land that will one day bloom again. The winery, named after the poet himself, built its whole identity and range around his work.
Taste profile: no oak, no malolactic fermentation — expect a clean, vivid white with pronounced acidity and pure fruit character, the mineral edge of volcanic soil coming through underneath. Gold-award winning, per the importer's own notes, and built for early, refreshing drinking rather than the cellar.
Winemaking process: a two-stage, entirely stainless-steel process — whole clusters crushed and fermented on skins for 10 days to extract colour and structure, then a further 35 days of temperature-controlled fermentation (20 degrees C) in stainless steel, followed by 6 months of ageing. No oak, no malolactic fermentation.
Winemaker: 264 Chungpodo Winery began as a collaboration between local farmers to cultivate the Cheongsu grape and preserve its natural character through minimal intervention. The name "264" refers to Yi Yuksa himself — the prisoner number he was assigned during his imprisonment for resistance against Japanese colonial rule, which he later adopted, phonetically, as his pen name.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
