Built by a bank in 1970 to become the largest single vineyard in Rioja — that's not usually how the great estates start.
Grape Varietals & Region: A blend of Tempranillo and Graciano, from El Coto de Rioja's vineyards in La Rioja, Spain, including the Los Almendros estate, one of the largest single vineyards in the appellation.
Taste Profile: A brilliant ruby colour with russet tones. Mature and elegant, its aromatic richness shifts and deepens as the wine breathes, opening with notes of toast and coconut before tertiary aromas of leather, wet earth, red fruit and dried fruit emerge. Medium to full-bodied, with succulent tannins that are round and silky, and a persistent, complex aftertaste. An ideal match for roast suckling lamb, game, or red meat.
Winemaking Process: The wine ferments in stainless steel tanks for 21–30 days, with just enough maceration to balance fruit and extract. It then ages in American and French oak barrels for a minimum of 24 months, followed by a minimum of 36 months refining in bottle before release.
Winemaker: El Coto de Rioja was founded in 1970 by a group of industry veterans under the sponsorship of the Bankunión industrial group, with the winery itself not completed until 1976 in Oyón, Álava. A policy of steady reinvestment through the 1980s and 90s doubled its facilities and vineyard holdings, and by 2000 El Coto had become Spain's leading brand for Crianza and Reserva wines. By 2004 its Los Almendros vineyard had grown to 450 hectares, making El Coto the largest winegrower in the entire Rioja appellation.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
