Tenuta Il Poggione Rosso di Montalcino 2023
The younger, more accessible sibling of Brunello, already carrying the structure and personality of a wine built to last.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Sangiovese, sourced from the estate's younger vineyards in Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy.
Taste Profile: Intense ruby red in colour, with a fruity bouquet of red berry notes. Very well structured yet soft, with a long-lasting flavour and smooth, velvety tannins.
Winemaking Process: 15 days of "submerged cap" fermentation in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts at a controlled temperature of 25-28°C, with malolactic fermentation also in stainless steel. Aged 12 months in large French oak barrels (30-50 hl) and barriques (350 litres), followed by bottle ageing. Wood ageing, though not obligatory for Rosso di Montalcino, tones down the tannins typical of young Sangiovese and gives the wine the complexity of a "young Brunello."
Winemaker: Tenuta Il Poggione traces back to the 19th century, when Florentine landowner Lavinio Franceschi heard tales of a shepherd moving his flocks across the hills between Montalcino and Sant'Angelo and, captivated by the landscape, bought the land himself. Franceschi recognised the winemaking potential of Sangiovese in this corner of Tuscany and brought modern methods to what had been near-medieval farming, helping Il Poggione become one of the very first estates to market Brunello di Montalcino, as early as the 1900s. The estate remains in family hands today, run by fifth-generation siblings Leopoldo and Livia Franceschi, with winemaker Fabrizio Bindocci at the helm of production since 1976, now joined by his son Alessandro.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
