Bodegas Emilio Moro "El Zarzal" 2021
Named for the family whose Tempranillo made them famous, El Zarzal is the Moro family's answer to a white grape almost nobody remembers Bierzo for.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Godello from vines between 15 and 20 years old, grown in sandy loam soils under continental climate influence in the best sites between Ponferrada and Molinaseca, in El Bierzo — a DO better known for reds, but blessed with the mineral-rich micro-terroirs that make Godello worth the detour.
Taste Profile: Pale straw yellow, with bright, persistent aromas of flowers and white fruit — apple, pear, peach — and a very faint touch of wood. Freshness and acidity stand out on the palate, adding up to a surprising, well-balanced whole.
Winemaking Process: Grapes are hand harvested, then fermented at controlled temperatures in stainless steel before ageing on the lees in 2,500-litre French oak foudres.
Winemaker: Bodegas Emilio Moro traces back to its namesake, born in 1891 in Pesquera de Duero, right in the heart of Ribera del Duero, who learned from his own father that hard work was the only path to great wine. The bodega itself wasn't founded until 1988, when José Moro Espinosa put the family's entire savings into winery equipment to finally bottle under the family name. Four generations later, José and Javier Moro run an estate with 200 hectares of vines — grafted from an exceptional Tempranillo clone recovered from their oldest plantings, and now, with wines like El Zarzal, stretching the family's ambitions to Bierzo's Godello as well.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
